| INTRODUCTION TO THE TIBETAN MEDITATION PRACTICE OF LOJONG * |
The word “Lojong” is usually translated as “mind training”. The Lojong teachings form an important part of the Tibetan Buddhist approach to the development of the compassionate or noble heart of “Bodhicitta”. Modern teachers describe these teachings as working with the difficult circumstances of our lives as a path to freeing our minds and opening our hearts.
In this session, we will look at the two central practices within Lojong: the compassion meditation practice of “Tonglen” and the contemplation of the 59 pithy “Lojong Slogans”. We will take time to practise the seven stages of Tonglen. Interspersed among sitting meditation periods, we will examine and briefly discuss several of the Lojong slogans with a view to their practical application on the meditation cushion and in our daily lives. |
